Call frameworks
A repeatable shape for the first call with a new client and every call after it. Use it as a rail, not a script.
Open ~5 min
Reconnect, then set the frame for the hour so it doesn't drift into a general catch-up.
- "This hour is yours — I want to leave with a clear picture of the business and one thing we're going to move first."
Business & founder context ~15–20 min
Where the business is today, where they want it in 12 months, and what's actually in the way.
- What only you can do right now that shouldn't require you?
- What's the single biggest constraint on growth today — capital, time, people, or process?
Define the win ~10 min
Skip "what would make this worth it" — everyone says money in the bank. Make the target specific, and find where your value actually shows up.
- How much needs to be raised, by when, from what mix of sources?
- What's standing between you and closing raises faster or bigger than you have on your own?
- What part of this can you genuinely not do without outside help?
Pick the one priority ~10–15 min
Resist working every thread they mention. Rank, commit to one focus for the next 2–4 weeks, park the rest.
Close with a next step ~5–10 min
One concrete deliverable or decision before the next call. Confirm the cadence — what's fair game between calls vs. saved for the dedicated hour.
Recap the last commitment ~5 min
Did the agreed next step actually happen? If not, find out why before moving on — the reason is usually more useful than the excuse.
What's changed ~10 min
Deals, investors, team, numbers since last call. Keep it tight — this is a scan, not the working session.
Work the one priority ~25–30 min
The actual working session on this cycle's focus. This is where most of the hour should go.
New asks & blockers ~10 min
Anything new gets triaged into the priority queue — don't just stack it on top of the current focus.
Close with next step ~5 min
Reconfirm exactly what's due before the next call, and by whom.
Discovery question bank
Pull from whichever category fits the flow of the conversation. Check questions off as you go — resets per call.
Client log
One running record per client — the priority you worked and what's due next, so nothing depends on memory between calls.
